Working in Dubai - What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Dear Friends,

After we have posted the last news in regards to Bartending in the UAE,
several of you actually asked us - or are still wondering - is it worth
working in Dubai?

What can you expect in terms of wages, benefits, salary, tips?

Let us quickly and straight forward tell you the, sometimes
inconvenient, truth:

All listed Salaries are listed in Dirham, the local currency and
based on our experience only. For converting into Dollars, devide by
3.65. Our local currently is fixed to the Dollar and does never change, so you can consider earning Dollar. Our Euro exchange Rate is based on 5.0, which is an average for the last 4 years.

Bartender: 1500 - 2000 AED = 300 - 400 Euro

Bar Captain/Teamleader/Supervisor: 1800 - 3000 AED = 360 - 600 Euro

Assistant Manager : 3500 - 6000 AED = 700 - 1100 Euro

Bar Manager: 5000 AED - approx. max. 12000 AED ?

Accommodation is taken care of by your employer

Transportation to your Bar/Hotel is taken care.

Health Care is taken care of.

You don't pay for Water, Gas, Electricity etc., no tax,

Tips: Depends from venue to venue, but you can surely as bartender
double, triple your Salary in many places :-)

Salaries may vary from Bar to Bar and usually independent Bars (not
directly to Hotels connected) pay more than Hotel Groups such as Hilton,
Sheraton, Jumeirah, Hyatt, Emaar etc.

On the first sight, it may look that you really earn not much, but you
need to compare what is left at the month end - because you actually
don't have much expenses.

What are the disadvantages on the other side?

Straight forward:

* You need to share your flat/room with someone you don't know in many cases and for many positions.

* People come often to work not for living to Dubai - that is
the common perception and so is the motivation of many staff

* The offers and availability of spirits are "limited" - the
Craft of Bartending compared to NYC/London/Berlin/Sydney is a "few"
years behind.

* 6 day working week at many Hotels

* It does not rain much ;-)

...and there are a few more...

>From our own point of view, it is very much worth it working in Dubai if
you know for what reason you are coming. You have to have a long term
plan and goal in mind, otherwise Dubai will frustrate you. Take the best
out of it! It is great to work and learn here with multicultural
colleagues within an middle east/Arabic environment and customers from
all over the globe

Cheers,

D.B.C.

Hier noch ein paar Impressionen....

Vielen Dank Für Deinen Einsatz Felix!

Mit den besten Grüßen,
